Little Gems book discussion: A Month in the Country by J.L. Carr In-Person
In this little gem, Tom Birkin, a young veteran of WWI, is suffering from the war and from a broken marriage. Birkin is hired to restore a recently discovered medieval mural in a small village church. During his summer in the village, he finds hope and healing. A Month in the Country (1980) won the Guardian Fiction Prize and was shortlisted for the Booker Prize.
