Webinar: MEMOIR WRITING In-Person
INSTRUCTOR PETER BACHO presented writing sessions at the San Francisco Public Library, the King County Public Library, the Hayward Public Library, the Sno-Isle Public Library, and the Detroit Public Library. He also teaches a class on memoir at The Evergreen State College.
Participants will learn the basics of writing a memoir, starting with what a memoir isn't, i.e., it is not an essay. A memoir is another form of storytelling, and as such, it uses the same techniques as effective novels: dialogue, action, drama, climax, etc. Participants will be given assignments and will share their results for comment and constructive critique.
Among Bacho's honors are an American Book Award and a Washington Governor’s Writers Award. His latest book, Uncle Rico's Encore, a collection of mini-memoirs about Filipino American Seattle, has received consistent and high literary praise. See below.
Uncle Rico's Encore was also one of four books in the large, growing and increasingly significant Asian American literary canon recommended for high school classroom use. The article is featured in Social Education, published by the National Council for the Social Studies. See below.
