Li-Garden Dance Company was founded in Stamford CT in 2017. Ms. Kaili Chen is the Founder and Artistic Director of the Company.
Our mission is to present an innovative dance style which is rooted in classical Chinese dance and modern dance, to provide high-quality trainings to empower our dancers with refined techniques and great confidence and connect our culture with the community and its people.
Dancing to Dunhuang Strings
Dunhuang Dance is a form of Chinese dance which combines traditional culture, modern art and influences from Buddhism. Dunhuang dance draws inspiration from the body movements in the Dunhuang grotto frescoes, and the instruments and music scores found in Dunhuang, West China.
Passersby in Misty Rain
A classical Chinese dance incorporating contemporary dance elements. Featuring a group of ladies in green strolling in misty rain, this dance contemplates the transient nature of life. Acknowledging being passersby, we then come to appreciate and embrace the present. The dancers wear traditional Weimao which are wide-brimmed hats with flowy veils, depicting an artistic scene of walking in a hazy, raining day. The chorography showcases the subtle, graceful Chinese dance techniques with expressive, powerful contemporary movements.
Ode to Pear Blossoms
Ode to Pear Blossoms is a classical Chinese dance incorporating Peking Opera elements. Dancers use folding fans as props to depict a scenery where Yang Guifei, a legendary ancient beauty, appreciates pear blossom in the spring rain, longing to reunion with her lover, the emperor. The graceful movements combine operatic poses and classical dance techniques, portraying the unspoken sorrow of Yang. She is proud of her own unapparelled beauty but saddened by lack of control over her destiny. The falling of dozens of petals is a traditional artistic metaphor suggesting Yang's tragic fate and withering life.
Enchanted Waves
A poetic classical Chinese dance. Dancers use hand fans as props, moving gracefully and expressively. The music uses traditional instruments including Chinese zither and flute along with gentle rippling water sounds, depicting a charming scene of wandering by West Lake and appreciating the light, clouds, shadows and waves. As a world heritage site in Hangzhou, China, West Lake has been known for its picturesque natures and profound cultural significance over the centuries, exemplifying the ideals of Chinese landscape aesthetics.
