Meet the Authors: PATRICK SCALISI & VALERIE RUBY-OMEN In-Person

cryptid noun
cryp·tid | \ ˈkrip-təd  \ plural cryptids

: An animal (such as Sasquatch or the Loch Ness Monster) that has been claimed to exist but never proven to exist
Join writer Patrick Scalisi and artist Valerie Ruby-Omen as they present the definitive guide to Connecticut cryptids. Exhaustively researched and fully illustrated, this is the only book you'll ever need to undertake your own search for Connecticut's mysterious and mythical creatures.
Pat & Val  discuss their book called Connecticut Cryptids: A Field Guide to the Weird & Wonderful Creatures of the Nutmeg State. Over three years, Val and Pat did extensive research on creature folklore from throughout the state to compile a definitive survey of Connecticut "cryptids," that is creatures that are believed to exist (like Bigfoot or the Loch Ness Monster) but never proven to exist. In doing so, they  learned that cryptids have been part of CT culture and history from as far back as the 1600s to as recently as the 2020s. There's even a fantastic story from Stratford about lighthouse keeper Judson and the mermaids!  They start by introducing the audience to the concepts of "cryptids" and "cryptozoology" and talk a little about their history. This is followed by a storytelling session from the book of interest to the area or group. A Q&A and a discussion concludes the event.  Autographed copies of their book and art prints will be available for purchase after the talk.
