Lobby Table: Connecticut Metropolitan Council of Governments In-Person
The Metropolitan Council of Governments (MetroCOG), which is a multi-discipline, regional planning organization with six member communities — Bridgeport, Easton, Fairfield, Monroe, Stratford and Trumbull, are updating the Regional Plan of Conservation and Development, which is a requirement of The State of Connecticut and must include recommendations for “land use, housing, principal highways and freeways, bridges, airports, parks, playgrounds, recreational areas, schools, public institutions, public utilities, agriculture and such other matters as will be beneficial to the area.” MetroCOG will utilize the POCD to holistically plan for and identify regional connections in the areas mentioned above, as well as a variety of transportation modes, neighborhood amenities, natural resources, hazard mitigation, economic development, arts, cultural and historic resources, and civic infrastructure.
The group will be doing outreach at the Stratford Library today surveying and asking the public questions about life within the region, and chat with folks who pass by for 5-10 minutes at their convenience.
Some the typical questions we have been asking include “what are the biggest challenges about living in your community” or “what is the most important thing to you in your community”. We also have online surveys and a photo contest (with prizes).
