Maureen Boyle, an award-winning journalist originally from Bridgeport, Connecticut,  has been a crime reporter in New England for more than 25 years. She was the first to cover the New Bedford, Massachusetts highway serial killer which she detailed in Shallow Graves.  Her latest book, The Ghost: The Murder of Police Chief Greg Adams and the Hunt for His Killer, explores the search for the chief’s murderer that spans decades.  She holds an undergraduate degree in journalism from the University of Bridgeport and a master's degree in criminal justice from Anna Maria Maureen Boyle discuss her latest book that explores the 1980 murder of Police Chief Greg Adams and the shocking discovery of his killer’s remains in a quiet Dartmouth neighborhood. She is currently the director of the journalism program at Stonehill College in Easton, Massachusetts.

About her new book, THE GHOST:

Before James “Whitey” Bulger, a Boston mobster, topped the FBI Most Wanted list, cop killer Donald E. Webb was the man the FBI most wanted to catch. Webb was a low-level mobster who committed crimes throughout the East Coast, including Connecticut, who killed the police chief in a small Pennsylvania community. The Ghost details the decades long search for Webb and the shocking way he was discovered.

Police Chief Greg Adams was out on patrol. Christmas was coming to Saxonburg, Pennsylvania-a quaint borough of just 1,300-in three short weeks. The winter air was crisp. Colored lights sparkled on houses. He was only a block and a half from the Police Department, and this was just an average traffic stop.

Until it wasn't.

The devoted husband and father of two little boys was about to meet any law enforcement officer's nightmare. Moments later, he would lay dying in a pool of his own blood on that white winter snow, while his killer vanished like an apparition into thin air.

Despite his many aliases, the true identity of the murderer was quickly found. The killer himself, was not. As State Police and FBI investigators peeled back the twisted layers of low-level mobster Donald Webb's life, the path to the killer would wind through decades ... toward a shocking conclusion. After all, secrets can only be kept for so long.

The author program is free and open to the public.  Autographed copies of THE GHOST will be available for purchase after Boyle's talk.
